Pediatric GI CAM Research Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne
At the RCH Department of Gastroenterology (www.rch.org.au/gastro) (affiliated with the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute Gut and Liver disorders group and University of Melbourne department of Paediatrics) we are actively involved in mind body research headed By Principal investigator Dr Annette Webb who runs the functional gastrointestinal disorders clinic. Dr Webb is a consultant pediatrician and gastroenterologist whose expertise in mind body medicine involves the use of hypnotherapy for functional and other gastrointestinal disorders. Hypnotherapy is currently performed in patients with Irritable bowel syndrome and in 2010 a new research project will occur investigating the use of hypnotherapy for adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease. Dr Webb has received funding from the NHMRC and MCRI for research into mind body therapies.
Dr Webb’s associate investigators include Professor Anthony Catto-Smith and Professor Susan Sawyer from Royal Children’s Hospital who are world leaders in Gastroenterology research and adolescent medicine respectively. The 2010 IBD hypnotherapy project will be coordinated by Clinical research Fellow Dr Katherine Sevar.
